I came across this article yesterday:

http://www.linuxworld.com/site-stories/2002/0812.install.html

The author installed both Windows 2000 Pro and RedHat Linux 7.3 on a Sony
Vaio. He made sure to enable the same services on each and kept record of the
time spent on both installs. The results were this:

Windows 2000 Pro 2:05
RedHat Linux 7.3 1:35

Things that took more time on Windows were the endless reboots and constantly
having to click "Agree" to the various EULA's in Windows. So, Windows isn't
really easier to install, it's frustrations are just more familiar to most
people.
