Highpoint raid controllers (372) ARE supported but it requires some
installation effort.
The highpoint site has a series of bootable/installable floppy images to
make the hardware raid drive show as a single drive. It does not support
raid 5, only raid 1, 0 and 1/0.
The kernel module is not GPL'ed and it requires a closed source library
to build. The library is available for free (as is all the other needed
bits and bytes) from their website. They also have an X based app that
allows config and control of the raid array.
I built a raid 1/0 box with screaming fast IDE drives and the HPT-372
controller. During a drive sync, it ran at a sustained 32.5 MB/s. That
is nearly bus speed. Client is happy.
