Unless they need bleeding edge stuff and/or USB support, install Windows
95B. I find it infinitely more stable than 98, and most apps that run
under 98 will run under 95.
I usually go so far as to say that Win95B is the best Windows OS from the
9x Series, with ME being the worst. Before I switched to Linux, I stuck
behind 95B pretty much universally. I once said that I needed to have at
least one of my machines running 98, so I decided to install it on my
laptop. However, I made a deal with myself, saying that the first time 98
crashed enough to annoy me, back I'd go to 95.
98 crashed during the installation. Whee.
