[ale] i just don't "get" it yet

Most times I've used ftp, the current directory where you invoke the
client is the directory where files will be put. I've never had a
command line unix ftp client that worked differently. So you could try:
cd /data/homedirectory
ftp remote
cd /path/filelocation
get file
"It will go to your home directory"
quit
Try it. Let me know.
