[ale] realplayer on linux

This little critter irritated me for about 40 min. a few weekends ago (the
"beta" version I had of RP7 expired)

Long story short.  RealNetworks quit "supporting" the *nix versions and a
group of community programmers picked up its development and support
(that's what the "cs" in the pkg. denotes).  Which led to a few
interesting developments.  1) Someone packaged the version 8 of the player
for a different architecture like the rpm error says or more likely used
the "new" very broken version of gcc that RedHat put in with the 7.0
distro (Linus as well as the gcc developers were up in arms about this a
few weeks back on the kernel mailing list).

I would see about getting the latest version 7 of the player (which is
actually very nice).  There are a few things to look out for to get it to
work properly.  Since RealNetworks only has http downloads for their s/w
(morons!) you will have to start to download the current version and then
cancel it once it begins.  Then change the url in your browser to the
latest 7 ver. (I recommend the pecompiled bin "rp7_linux20_libc6_i386_cs1.bin")

Once you figured out where you're going to put it (if you use the .bin file) you will have to change the name of the dir created for it (RealPlayer7) to "RealPlayer7b" because some of the code was changed, but no one ever bothered to correct the name of the dir.  This version won't expire and plays all the RM,RAM,RA, etc. content out there.  It's much more stable than its windows counterpart and can be set to take up less desktop real estate than the windows version.  Of course, if one's been using OSS and GPL'd s/w for some time then that's not really a surprise.
