[ale] ethernet switch issues

For those of you who might have any remote interest, I never got my
ethernet switch working.  Returned it, and purchased a Linksys 10/100
hub.  Works like a charm.  I know I won't have the same throughput when
things get busy, but hey it's a home network.

Wish I had better insights...
