You may be using Xinetd instead of inetd.  I'm not that familiar w/ xinetd,
but it should be /etc/xinetd with some of the services having separate files
underneath of that.  See http://www.xinetd.org for details if this is in
fact what you are running.  As for the port numbers, the only place I know
of to look is /etc/services (for pre-defined ports).
