I use Tk for everything myself, but I have a book called "X Window
Inside and Out" by Levi Reiss and Joseph Radin, ISBN# 0-07-881796-X.
It's very good, lots of example code. Focus is on Xlib an intrinsics.
Beware that your 3-line Tk script will turn into a few hundred lines
of C.
