I asked a colleague who uses the LinkSys 4-port model from home: PPPoE
to Mindspring, and using a VPN connection to work from home.

She reports, _yes_ - she had problems with stability of PPPoE sessions
until she upgraded the firmware, and that solved it. General InterNet
activity is now solid and she has no further problems with PPPoE
stability. She still has occasional breaks of her VPN sessions, generally
after a long period of inactivity. She has not been able to track this
down yet.

Apparently there was a PPPoE problem and apparently it was fixed.
