[ale] Problems compiling 2.2.16

The problem could be anywhere above that line number. You might try using
the % key in vi from all your braces and parens to find the match, but it
could be a missing semicolon anywhere between line 1 and line 733. Where did
you get your source? Can you just pull down that file again? You could diff
them and probably see that the file lost part of a line somehow.
