[ale] sendmail -mindspring-ISP ignorance

I am running Red Hat 6.2 on a sparc 10. I connect to the internet via mindspring. Sendmail does not work. The sendmail.cf file on the sparc is different from my intel 5.1-->6.1 upgraded linux sendmail.cf file WHICH WORKS. I have tried to put the relay stuff into the configuratin file via linux config as well as directly editing the sendmail.cf file.
For an hour I could actually get the thing to work until the machine froze and I had to reboot. After the reboot, no mail. The configuration file is confusing as it has "relay to smart host" sections as well as "smart host" sections. I know this is simple. For all I know, I may have set up the configuration file correctly but did not reset the sendmail daemon correctly. I alternate between altering the config file and rebooting and killing the sendmail process and then invoking sendmail start &....
host: xena2
mail server: smtp.mindspring.com mail.mindspring.com #my intel sendmail.cf uses mail.mindpring.com relayto:[mail.mindspring.com]
Any help would be appreciated.
