[ale] kernel compile won't boot

Figured this one out. First of all the two kernels I 'thought' we from
the same config differ by one element, a nic driver that was a module in
one and in the kernel in the other. Problem was, the kernel version of
the nic driver needs updating, so I assume this was causing the
problem. I recompiled with the nic driver as a module and the machine
boots now.
This machine has one of the linksys cards I had inquired about earlier
this week. To get the thing to work, you've got to compile the driver
separately and manually place it in the /lib/modules dir. Now, the box
boots and the nic is properly recognized.
Thanks for the assist.
