[ale] Search engine updates

Does anyone know of some perl/cgi/?? methods to update search engines
automatically? If I have a table with search engines, and a table of
use/meta info, I would like to programmatically rip through the user table
and blast that info to each search engine in that table. Where can I look
for info?
