[ale] BellSouth.net and DNS

Jere,
  I've been using BellSouth for two years with Linux without any major
problems.  They have fixed DNS servers.  They DO use dynamic IP
addresses which are assigned to the user every time they dial in (and
change each time.)  Is it that he can't ping something from his box after
he connects or is he trying to ping HIS box from somewhere else??

  I can ping from here to kingdom come right now, but if I want to ping
the box I'm connected with, I have to look in /var/log/messages for my
assigned address (which I just did, cause I need it for the remote xterm
session I'm getting ready to open as soon as I finish this reply.)  Email
me for the BellSouth DNS servers I use.  You also did not say which
distribution of Linux your friend is using.  Ths ultimately doesn't
matter, but the configuration is easier under some.
