Hello Jim,
We sometimes use a flat panel when we take a demo of our product on
the road. Here are some problems you might have using a laptop with
Linux and an LCD panel/projector based on my experience:
- The laptop's external port is not turned on. Sometimes you
can do this with some special key sequence. On at least one
laptop we had, I had to edit XF86Config and turn on some special
options that would enable the external monitor port. Fortunately,
the configuration program that came with Red Hat put these
options in the file and left them commented out. You might
be able to find them with a 'man XF86_SVGA' (or what every other
server you are running)
- Resolution/scan frequency is not within the range of the
projector. You'll have to tune XFree86 by looking at the
projector manual.
- The laptop will lock up if you 'suspend' it and not come back.
The solution here is usually to recompile the kernel and enable
APM support.
Hope that helps - good luck!
-Eric.
