[ale] default include path for gcc

I just tried to upgrade my gcc and g77 compilers. The compile went OK (I
think) but now when I try to compile a program, gcc can't find its include
files.

I used --prefix=/usr when configuring my gcc/g77 build. (gcc-2.7.2.3 and
g77 5.22).

Do I need to explicitly set an include variable in my .bash_profile? I didn't
seem to need it before I upgraded. TIA.
