I take it you are still 'rooting' around?  &;^)

For the overall sources, Paul DuBois points you towards:
  ftp://ftp.uu.net/published/oreilly/nutshell/imake
  ftp://ftp.primate.wisc.edu/pub/imake-book

That doesn't get you a working 'config' directory, so you probably want to
install your distribution's X-development package first, then rework
'imake' as you need to.  Else buy his book (which I find good) and go 'the
whole nine yards', which gets you full masochism points in almost any
league. 

DISCLAIMER- I just guessed those from 'ftp' addresses -- you may have to
futz a bit with the addresses to get a 'proper' URL.
