Hrrrm, actualy I've been looking into doing something like this, the
biggest problem being how to get modutils to understand it..
(My use tho is to include the compile in there)

No, the zImage is in no way required....
Tho I would suggest changing that to
time (make dep && make clean && make bzImage && make modules)
