[ale] grep bug?

Just upgraded to RedHat 5.0 about two months ago and noticed unusual
behavior with grep.  It no longer complains about non-existent files or
attemped execution against a directory.  The directory issue doesn't
bother me so much, but if there's a typo in the file name, you never now
as grep returns silently.

Anyone else seen this?
