Huh??? Something's not right here... There shouldn't have been
anything in that directory with a .gz extension at that point to begin
with. What does an "ls" show BEFORE you ran ./Runme?

Here are the files I see before running .Runme:

] alcove:~/wordperfect8$ ls
] Readme b_ins00 b_req00 b_us00 g_req01 g_req03 g_us01
] Runme b_ins01 b_req01 g_req00 g_req02 g_us00
] alcove:~/wordperfect8$

Here are the files I see after running .Runme:

] alcove:~/wordperfect8$ ls
] Readme b_ins01.bk b_us00.bk g_req02.bk g_us01.bk
] Runme b_req00.bk g_req00.bk g_req03.bk
] b_ins00.bk b_req01.bk g_req01.bk g_us00.bk
] alcove:~/wordperfect8$

Note:
I unpacked from the single 23Meg download file, which should have
given the same results as the 7 "pieces" but maybe not. I also did not
unpack into the same directory that the tarballs resided in. Here is
how I unpacked:

# alcove:~/wordperfect8$ tar xvzf /mnt1/linux/wordperfect/guilg00.gz

I definitely ran this from XWindows and the installer is going to
run a GUI window during installation, but I don't think this is your problem.
Check carefully to see what files you have after unpacking and before running
the script. Having extra files like the original tarballs or having files
in the wrong format may be confusing the Runme script.

Yeah... One other thing, not related to your question. Why install
in /WordPerfect8? Something like this should go under /usr or /usr/local
(my preference) or /opt. You may be running a single partition system
but putting things off the root directory is a bad practice. For developers,
it violates the file system standard. There are lots of reasons for this
that really comes into play when you run multiple partitions (a good
practice). This really isn't Windows or Dos where everything gets dumped
willy nilly into the root directory.
