[ale] Routed problems

I am attempting to check to see of routed is working, so that I know
the problem is at the ISP (in this case the ISP is willing to admit it
is them, but we want to test it first, we are setting up with some
tricky equipment).

I've had this syem working, but I am changing subnets. I believe the
problem is on the ISP end, but I was cheking and came accross some
problems. If anyone knows the internal of trouted and can offer some
suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Also has anyone gotten gated to work? I always read its supieror to
routed, but I've never gotten it to work.

Here is is what I have

Local Subet 207.173.10.156/240 (16 bit 156 to 171).

Here 207.173.10.157 is the local ethernet card

PPP link:
inet addr:207.173.11.80 P-t-P:207.173.11.2 Mask:255.255.255.0

routed is called with:
routed -d -g -s /var/adm/routed.msg &

This yields a file like:
------------
/var/adm/routed.msg:
Wed Feb 12 10:21:50:
ADD dst 127.0.0.0, router 127.0.0.1, metric 1, flags UP state PASSIVE|INTERFACE|
CHANGED|EXTERNAL timer 0
ADD dst 207.173.10.0, router 207.173.10.157, metric 1, flags UP state PASSIVE|IN
TERFACE|CHANGED|INTERNAL|SUBNET timer 0
ADD dst 207.173.10.0, router 207.173.10.157, metric 1, flags UP state INTERFACE|
CHANGED|SUBNET timer 0
ADD dst 207.173.11.2, router 207.173.11.80, metric 1, flags UP|HOST state INTERF
ACE|CHANGED timer 0
ADD dst 207.173.11.80, router 127.0.0.1, metric 1, flags UP|HOST state PASSIVE|I
NTERFACE|CHANGED timer 0
SIOCADDRT: No such file or directory
ADD dst 0.0.0.0, router 0.0.0.0, metric 1, flags UP|GATEWAY state PASSIVE|CHANGE
D|INTERNAL timer 0

Wed Feb 12 10:24:50:
CHANGE metric dst 207.173.11.2, router 207.173.11.80, from 1 to 16

Wed Feb 12 10:24:50:
DELETE dst 0.0.0.0, router 0.0.0.0, metric 1, flags UP|GATEWAY state PASSIVE|INT
ERNAL timer 0

----------

Now I see three problems
  1) SIOCADDRT: No such file or directory
What file? /etc/gateways exists (empty for the most part)
  2) CHANGE/DELETE
     why is this happening?

Now when the -d flag is on, I see in the DAEMON log:
Feb 12 10:21:50 zotnet routed[20705]: adding route to net/host 207.173.11.80 thr
ough gateway 207.173.11.80: Network is unreachable
Feb 12 10:24:50 zotnet routed[20705]: deleting route to interface ppp1 (timed ou
t)

Now I am curious as to why routed is attempting to route the ppp host to itself, but stranger things have happened.
