[ale] kernel hung on sendmail daemon

I'm trying to get my ethernet card to work with my system, and I finally
got it to detect my card with the new kernel, but when I reboot the system
it hangs when starting up the sendmail daemon. Usually it would report
errors right before it started up any daemons because my network was
setup, but card was not detected or being used. So now it suppresses those
erros, but hangs when it starts up the sendmail daemon. Is this the
first place where it tries to go out over the network? Does anyone
have any solutions for this problem?

thanks
charlie
