Another, rather spiffy, posix awk implementation, written by a rather
nice guy named Michael Brennan. Available via ftp from oxy.edu in an obvious
place, although I don't remember the exact path.

Mawk is quite solid and very fast, although somewhat less featureful
than gawk.
