CHARTERS

These are the group charters as provided by the proponent.

	1) Group: comp.os.linux.advocacy (unmoderated)

Charter: For discussion of the benefits of Linux compared to other
		  operating systems.

	2) Group: comp.os.linux.answers (moderated)

Charter: For posting Linux FAQs, How-To's, READMEs and other
documents that answer questions about Linux. This will
help keep the traffic down in other c.o.l.* groups and will
		  leave comp.os.linux.announce for true announcements.
C.o.l.answers will be moderated by Matt Welsh
(mdw at cs.cornell.edu), the moderator of c.o.l.announce.

	 Submission Address: linux-announce at tc.cornell.edu
	 Moderator Contact: linux-announce-request at tc.cornell.edu

	3) Group: comp.os.linux.development.apps (unmoderated)

Charter: For questions and discussion regarding the writing of
applications for Linux and the porting of applications to
		  Linux.

	4) Group: comp.os.linux.hardware (unmoderated)

Charter: For questions and discussion specific to a particular piece
of hardware, e.g., "can this system run Linux?", "how do I
use this disk drive with Linux?", etc.

	5) Group: comp.os.linux.networking (unmoderated)

Charter: For questions and discussion relating to networking or
		  communications including Ethernet boards, serial
		  communications, SLIP, etc.

	6) Group: comp.os.linux.x (unmoderated)

Charter: For questions and discussion relating to X Window System,
version 11, compatible software including servers, clients,
libraries, and fonts, running under Linux. XFree86 issues
not unique to Linux will be directed to
		  comp.windows.x.i386unix.

	7) Rename group: comp.os.linux.development (unmoderated)
		     to: comp.os.linux.development.system (unmoderated)

Charter: For questions and discussion regarding the development of
the Linux operating system proper: kernel, device drivers,
		  loadable modules.

	8) Rename group: comp.os.linux.admin (unmoderated)
		     to: comp.os.linux.setup (unmoderated)

Charter: For questions and discussion relating to Linux installation
		  and system administration.

	9) Rename group: comp.os.linux.help (unmoderated)
		     to: comp.os.linux.misc (unmoderated)

Charter: For questions and discussion relating to Linux but not
covered by a more specific Linux newsgroup.

Note: The intent here is actually to remove comp.os.linux.help,
not to rename it to .misc, which already exists.
Unfortunately, it's not possible to remove it directly.

HOW TO VOTE

Erase everything above the top "-=-=-=-" line and erase everything
below the bottom "-=-=-=-" line. Do not erase anything between these
lines and do not change the group names. Basically, remove everything
except the ballot - we have to save them all on disk.

Give your name on the line that asks for it. For each group, place a YES or
NO in the brackets next to it to vote for or against it. If you don't want
to vote on a particular group, just leave the space blank. Don't worry
about spacing of the columns or any quote characters (">") that your reply
inserts.

Then mail the ballot to: linux-reorg-vote at amdahl.com
Just Replying to this message should work, but check the "To:" line.

Quick voting checklist:
1) Fill in the ballot form shown below.
2) Delete the rest of the CFV from your reply.
3) Make sure your reply goes to linux-reorg-vote at amdahl.com.

Anything else may be rejected by the automatic vote counting program. The
votetaker will respond to your received ballots with an automated acknowledge-
ment by mail - if you do not receive one within several days, try again.
It's your responsibility to make sure your vote is registered correctly.

Only one vote per person, no more than one vote per account. Addresses and
votes of all voters will be published in the final voting results list.

Duplicate votes will be resolved in favor of the most recent valid vote.
WARNING: In cases where voting fraud is determined to have occurred, it is
standard operating procedure to delete ALL votes submitted by the violator.
When in doubt, ask the vote-taker.
