fwvm-crystal is probably what you need then. The default font is huge. Way too big for most people. So large it is almost like a cartoon. Might be perfect for you.
Break-off menus are 100% optional. If you don't like the, then don't use them.
I have eye issues too. Will probably never be able to read using my left eye again due to metamorphopsia after 2 eye surgeries. I've been warned I'll likely never have better than 20/60 in 1 eye.
Regardless, people seek solutions until they find one that meets their needs.
