[ale] Password security

Nor be like the first Linux system I ever encountered when I was a kid 
(a display system w/GUI in some small Marietta computer store I now 
forget the name of). The interaction went something like this:

Me: *sees usernames on login screen's list* Huh, "root" is a funny name.
*enters "root" into password prompt & clicks "Login"*
Me: This is neat; wonder what this is? *proceeds to click other stuff 
accessible from the KDE 2.x launcher menus until it was time to leave, 
during which at some point "reboot" was clicked*...
