Would the battery bug still be an issue with an alternative OS? I thought that was just the planned obsolescence update, or is there some other problem? I am looking to stay in the under $200 range. My current unlocked phone is four years old, and I only paid $130 for it back then, new.

Beware the battery-killing update, first on the Pixel4a, now on the Pixel6a.

I'd looked at a Pixel8 Pro for ~$600 CAD - it has a better camera sensor
and was about the price of a new Pixel9a (~$675 CAD).

Of course, your budget may vary, but I'd advise going for a better model.

It might be wise to avoid the "a" series for a while as Google seems to
have chosen cheap and unreliable batteries on at least some batches of them.
