[ale] OT: failed SSD and Windows

I would check the SMART data. smartctl is the command. Typically there is a write count parameter in that data. Also any other issues like a bad connection can show up in it.
Saw a slickdeal on a PNY 240gb  SATA 2.5-in SSD for $24 yesterday, if you need something cheap.
