[ale] Is there anything better than GoDaddy

Until last year, I'd always been able to find a coupon for GoDaddy renewals that kept the cost below the "I care" threshold. I typically did 10 yr renewals, so dealing with them was minimal.

Last fall, that changed (best price more than doubled), so I transferred a few domains to namecheap. For the next 3 months, got lots of spoofed emails from phishers about those domains. It was only a 1-yr transfer deal, so I'm looking to renew/transfer some .coms for $6 or less. What a racket. Keep a few records in a DB. Miss the days of $2/yr .coms.

I keep DNS, hosting and registrar at 3 different places. This prevents being trapped by any single company. If I don't like something, just modify a pointer and the trouble making company is cut out of the mix. It isn't like there is any magic to any of these 3 things.

No revelations. Sorry.
