Here's a thought.
- Buy a power strip that can be disassembled
- Disassemble the power strip
- Disconnect the wire
- run the wire through the enclosure (it has a thin end now!)
- Reconnect the wire to the power strip
- Reassemble the power strip
Serviceable power strips can be difficult to find but I can confirm that
this one has screws underneath (I have this one):

I think he's just wanting to use the enclosure but with modern electronics
(and new wire) inside without modifying the enclosure. :)
