[ale] The importance of regular backups - AKA: The ALE list's getting a blast from the past

Hi all,

The ALE mailing list's "config.pck" file corrupted over the weekend and wasn't noticed until this evening. This file contains basically everything about the list (subscribers, settings, etc.), and unfortunately the latest backup copy on hand was from June 24, 2017 which means any changes since then have been lost. I believe I've set the list's settings back to how they were, but it's possible that there are a few other changes that need to be made before the list is fully functional again so please excuse any weirdness over the next few days.

Unfortunately, I have no way of recovering any of the subscription changes made to the list since this backup was created. If you know of anyone who had joined after that date (and want them to come back), please let them know that they will need to re-subscribe to the list as they're not going to have received this message (unless they happen to browse through the list archives or see the post I'm about to make on the ale.org page). If you had previously unsubscribed from this list after that date, then I apologize for any inconvenience receiving this email has caused you (and you'll need to unsubscribe again, which you can do so from here: https://mail.ale.org/mailman/listinfo/ale).

-Robert
