[ale] Ethernet cable trouble...

You said you already have a multimeter...
...on one end just strip and twist the blue wire to the blue/white creating
a short on one end, do this for each pair and test continuity from the
other end to make sure the pair is a complete circuit.

No need to buy a cable tester unless you expect to use it more than a
couple times, or if you are not confident in your contractors punch-down or
connector making skills...or ask the contractor to use their tester, since
any reputable low voltage cable installer will have their own simple
connector tester like those referenced.

Regardless of testing, when using 10/100 ethernet the orange and blue pairs
are all that is used...but when you add POE it complicates things since
some manufacturers use the green and/or brown pairs for power and some
induce the power onto the orange and blue pairs.

I recommend putting a connector on both ends and testing the affected cable
with the actual switch and camera to make sure it is functional before
doing anything more than using the multimeter.
