+1 have also used the mindpoint group playbooks, and have also briefly used
https://github.com/networktocode/ntc-ansible for some Cisco network
configuration work

I’ve seen some genius things done with salt and multi-hierarchy master
using states on the message bus to react to environmental assertions, but
that sort of alchemy is reserved for those who are smart enough to split
atoms.

One open source project that is in deep active development with salt is the
“hybrid-hunter” alpha version of the SecurityOnion stack:
https://blog.securityonion.net/2018/12/security-onion-hybrid-hunter-105-tech.html

It includes snort/suricata, bro(now seek) IDS, ELK, Wazuh, and many other
tools focused on network security monitoring.

Although my favorite is Ansible, and I’ve also used puppet at a past job,
and I’m intrigued by Salt... I also think the chef-based gitlab installer
RPM is pretty darn awesome. Haven’t played with it much at all, but that
gitlab installer is a thing of beauty, especially in its validations and
resiliency.
