I don’t remember this specific story line but Andre Norton sometimes used the idea of odd recording mediums being found by future people. This was long before home video tapes became common but I recall thinking the first time I saw video tape that it was this kind of medium she was describing. (i.e. Not “film” where individual cells would be recognizable but a medium that looks like nothing until you play it.)

I have read book many times in my teenage years an even later. I can't remember title or author. I know you are all sci fi buffs :)
The story was about a man scientist or technician in power plant. He was working in some sort of underground room. When he is on shift underground some kind of radiation wipes out all fauna on Earth but not the flora. So he became the last human being on Earth. Then he takes on conquest to find another human being if any survived. Journey is long and ends up on the shore of the ocean. There he is sitting hopeless when saw fresh footprints in the sands. And there story ends.
P.S. Now I remembered the beginning. Someone found in a cave reels with metallic wire similar to tape reels and the story was recorded on the reels told by survivor. So the story is suppose to be happening in the far past. The idea of high tech civilization million years ago :)
If anyone can remember the book give me a hint please.
