Lennart deserves practically all of the criticism headed his way, but
this wasn't him, and it predates systemd.  The systemd Borg *did* absorb
udev, though. /-:

Greg KH and Alan Stern are the culprits/heroes for this, as asynchronous
probing originated in the USB stack, if I recall correctly.
