*Position Description: *

We are seeking a high-performance computing technologist to provide
technical stewardship and oversight of a rapidly growing set of
leading-edge computational resources.  The School of Computational Sciences
and Engineering (CSE) supports interdisciplinary research and education in
computer science and applied mathematics using a diverse collection of HPC
resources including Intel-and NVIDIA-based GPGPU clusters, large-memory HPC
servers, large-scale storage arrays, high-performance interconnects like
Infiniband, and unique hardware.  This position supports research and
education uses of these diverse HPC resources including user support and
collaboration on deployment, research, and development as well as special
projects to support research groups in areas such as HPC and "big data".
The candidate will work closely with the College of Computing (CoC)
Technology Services Organization (TSO) to implement large-scale, automated
approaches to managing substantial quantities of high-performance computing
resources in support of CSE needs.  The candidate will interface with
personnel at the campus Office of Information Technology.

*Position Specific Duties and Assigned Effort:*

Work with CSE School Chair, faculty, researchers and graduate students with
the acquisition, research, development, and deployment of CSE HPC and
large-scale data cyberinfrastructure.  These duties include:

·         Provide primary point of contact to faculty, staff, students for
technical matters relating to CSE business,

·         Manage technical problems, requests, projects to assure quick
resolution, best practices and excellent customer service,

·         Implement large-scale, automated approaches to operating system
and configuration management and control of CSE HPC resources,

·         Develop and coordinate technical aspects of research grant
proposals,

·         Plan and manage technical aspects of CSE research projects,

·         Develop written computing and networking policies and
documentation,

·         Participate in campus-wide HPC initiatives such as the formation
of large grids and cooperative application computing environments.

Work with the Director of TSO Research & Instruction for advice regarding
research and development and/or acquisition of infrastructure and tools in
support of HPC activity, including:

·         Provide point of contact and customer interface regarding TSO’s
support of CoC HPC services,

·         Monitor and maintain the general health of HPC clusters,

·         Implement Institute computing and networking security policies
and procedures,

·         Participate in campus-wide HPC initiatives such as large-scale
operating system distribution and management.

·         Provide TSO baseline services to CSE faculty, staff, and students.

*Job Qualification:*

Minimum qualifications include a BS degree in Science, Computer Science,
Engineering or a closely related field; experience with Linux operating
system distributions, including installation, configuration, writing shell
scripts, building software, etc.; experience specifying, building, and
troubleshooting modern computer systems; basic networking; and excellent
written and oral communication skills with strong customer service focus.
Ability to develop knowledge and skills with the following technologies:
cluster monitoring and management; application software configuration;
parallel compilers, libraries, and run-times; queuing and scheduling;
high-speed HPC interconnects such as multi-Gigabit Ethernet; Infiniband,
and converged networks; system tuning and diagnostics.  Previous work
experience in a college/university environment is preferred.
