What is it that makes a chromebook useless for your need? The x86 versions
support pretty much anything a normal netbook does.  The only issue I have with
my C720
* no DELETE key
* no ethernet port
* 2G RAM soldered

Besides that, it is a good, VT-x capable, x86 (actually x64) CPU that
performance nicely for $200 and has 8 hrs of battery.

Not all Chromebooks have ARM CPUs.
