I haven't used plain FTP in years. Even inside my LAN, if there isn't already a
network file system mount (usually NFS, but sometimes CIFS), then scp (winscp)
is used. It is habit, the thought of using FTP just isn't a considerations.
The $4/month webhost we use supports ssh connections, so scp and sftp work. It
was a consideration when choosing a webhost actually. We've been there 7 yrs, so
this isn't anything new. DEMAND SSH from your webhost.
Excellent discussion on this. Hopefully we've helped folks to determine when/if
using FTP is worth it still. Even if folks aren't ready today, the listsrv
archives will retain it for later consideration.
I've been trying to ask questions like this every week or so to have helpful,
topical, discussions here. Like?
