Data files are owned by an application in the newer Android releases. I guess
the extension could be used for some of those files.  I think the reason for
this, and I'm just guessing, is that when an application is removed, all the
data files associated are also removed.  This is a good thing, except for media
and photos. I think those are exceptions to the delete-it-rule, but honestly
haven't had the balls to try it.  I keep photos in many different directories -
think the camera area is probably safe, but don't know about other directories
used for photo organization.
