We've had to start slowly implementing fail2ban on our web servers here at UA.  It seems that we are a favorite target of some people in Vietnam...

fail2ban is now behind it. the banned IP list is growing at about 3 per minute.

yeah. _that's_ why the ale server was slow! it was MINUTES between establishing ssh protocol version 2 and communicating the allowed encryption protocols. Seems httpd was under attack and had clogged itself.
