[ale] CUPS or LPR?

Uh, I thought lpr(1) was an interface to CUPS. At least, that's how it
works on my machines at home. I have a CUPS/scanner server set up on my
network, but from the command line I use lpr(1) to print to the printers
attached to it. Am I confused?
