If you're not inserting and removing the card every day then it's
probably not the contacts.  There was an update for Android not too long
ago (at least it was for JellyBean 4.2.2 on my Galaxy S4) that changed
the mount order a bit so that the card would mount properly at boot.
Prior to that my phone would stop recognizing the card or be unable to
find it at boot.  After the update it was happy again.  I'm using a
SanDisk Ultra 64GB UHS-1 (Class 10) card for my phone.  Mounting the
card takes a minute or so for the fsck but it hasn't had any issues
since the update.
