Title: Linux Server Security: A beginner’s guide
Presenter: Jonathon Meek
Date: 11/14 @ 7:30p – 9:30p-ish
Where: SPSU J-202

Abstract:
As we see more and more attacks against maintainers of data, it has prompted
many people to move their data from the cloud to their own home server. However,
this means learning the ins and outs of Linux server security. This talk is
geared towards starting on the ground level and do the “low-hanging fruit”
within Linux server security such as setup of services, using sudo & doing
backups “The Right Way” along with the tools to complete the job.

Bio:
Jonathan Meek is an Application Developer Specialist with AT&T IT Operations.
His work has been on developing software to recover un-provisioned network
elements and helping design the next generation of provisioning workflow within
the company. He was Research Scientist for Georgia Tech Research Institute for
three years, doing work in the Quality Assurance Department of the Electronic
Systems Lab. He holds a bachelors and a masters degree in computer science from
Southern Polytechnic State University. He started working with Linux in 2006 at
the suggestion of one of his professors. Previous to his work at Georgia Tech
Research, he worked at King & Spalding LLP on the IT Support team. His hobbies
include running, writing, movie trivia. He holds memberships with the National
Eagle Scout Association and Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.

We have a larger room due to popular demand, J202.  There will be signs on bldg
doors and at the top of the 2nd floor stairs.
