[ale] WAY OT: Remembering a book

The movie Bladerunner was based on Dick’s “Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep”. That movie is one of my favorites. I hadn’t read the book until after the movie and the focus of the book was more about why everything is dilapidated so explains the state of thinks you see in the movie. The movie however leaves out what is the point in the book. Despite that, all in all I preferred the movie.

The only question in my mind is why they called the movie Bladerunner in the first place. There is a good book of that title by Alan E. Nourse I’d read long before the movie but it was not used at all in the movie plot.

I have been reading the P. K. Dick's short stories, sad to say most of the movies based on them don't follow story at all.

I do know that Foundation was the bases of the Role Playing Game I played thru high school and college called Traveller by GDW.

Another writer that had a lot of books that were cool was E. E. "Doc" Smith, I love to find his and read them.

I re-read it in 2008. It was just as great a read as I remembered at age 12.
Friday, SISL, TMIAHM and some of his other books are still great too, BTW.
Throwing rocks - I love it.

For a more current hard-sci-fi author, KSR's Red Mars series is pretty great.
HIGHLY recommended.
