The next ALE-NW at SPSU meeting is being held Tuesday March 14th, 2013 at 7:30pm in
room J-266 of the Atrium (J) building on the SPSU campus.
===================================
The feature presentation will be by Alan Hecht presenting on:
Ruby on Rails for the Uninformed
---------
Abstract:
It's been a while since Ruby on Rails was the latest fad in programming. Since
that time Ruby on Rails has matured into a useful web application framework for
database backed web sites. This overview will show why you should learn Ruby on
Rails as well as when it is useful to use.
---------
Bio:
Alan has been a UNIX user since the days of BSD 4.3 and a Linux user since 1998.
Alan's career has spanned everything from commercial simulation software written
in Fortran on a VAX to Fortune 50 MIS applications running on UNIX minicomputers
to shrink-wrap Windows accounting software to commercial web sites written in
Ruby on Rails. By day, Alan is a lead developer at Primedia working on web
applications using Ruby along with dabbling in DevOps. Alan runs a bi-weekly
Ruby on Rails tutorial meetup sponsored by Primedia and the Atlanta Ruby Users
Group.
===================================
If there is time remaining, a few lightning talks might be presented:
* Show and tell from the group (an R-Pi router would be nice)
* Media Library Organization for XBMC
* What Do Distro Support Cycles Mean?
