I've did research for network devices for this.  small footprint multip LAN
devices.

Now if your whizbang idea requires some sort of embedded board it may be a
bit more difficult.  One solution I've seen is taking a beagle bone black
and adding a custom board to it.  I like it better than raspberry PI
because it seems to have a much better processor, a true ethernet interface
and best of all it is shaped similar to a Arduino and so a shield like
board could be used to extend it for your product.
