I understand - I wasn't saying you have a choice.  Often enough you don't.  We still do ftp on various things.

By the way one palatable way to allow for use of sftp/scp (for gets at least) might be to suggest use of WinSCP -  It is open source and installs on Windoze as a GUI.  It can be used for sftp/scp as well as standard ftp.   We've gotten our internal users using that to talk to our UNIX/Linux servers so we don't have to run ftp server on them.

Well, until ssh is built into Windows, what chose to I have, IIS has ftp, I can't install ssh on the systems I asked. I even offer to do CIFS mount and move the files over, but they wouldn't listen to me. So I have to use the tools I have. Since this is behind my firewalll, if someone is sniff, I got bigger problems with them getting password. I won the battle by them letting me set up sftp on a server on a port that wasn't 22 and that with ssh keys,  there no need for password log in.  So I can put with ftp from my linux bot to my windows server.
