[ale] anybody doing android development and how?

There's nothing about Java that dictates "kludgy" code. That's down to the
person writing the code; just like with every other language.

There's also nothing inherent about Java that makes it insecure. That's
down to the libraries used and the JVM under which the code runs.

I don't know much of anything about the Android platform, but I'm pretty
sure neither of those concerns are valid. The JVM is not the Oracle JVM and
the libraries, other than the ones you include, are written from the ground
up specifically for Android.

Java itself is not a bad language. There are some really annoying things
about it, but they are primarily in the tools.

Finally, in response to the actual question, last time I looked, Groovy
wasn't really available. There was an ancient experiment to get it working
on Android, but it seemed to go nowhere.
