If you are suggesting taking a lead-acid battery down to nothing, don't 
do it.  If you go much past 50% discharge on a lead-acid battery you 
will be reducing it's life.  Also L-A batteries can lose capacity if not 
recharged completely but that's not an issue with a UPS usually.
