[ale] Laptop with "hidden" encryption

Once, a few years ago, I found an article describing how to install
windows and Linux dual boot, Linux would be encrypted. yawn. but wait,
there was a trick. It also had another Linux install that looked like
empty disk space, not formated. The rest was a "throw away" you brought
up (in this exact case, at The Boarder) and when they wanted to see the
encrypted portion, you just booted up Linux, unlocked it. Nothing on it
but Office stuff.
Supposedly, even if they cloned the disk, it would still be white
noise. Of course, once the laptop left your sight, you could never use
it again, but hey, small price to pay.
You never used it. you use the secret encrypted "white noise" empty,
unformatted space. However, I can't find that any link any more. Ring
any bells?
Anybody got a bone or a clue they can throw?
Not that I cross the boarder, not that I have anything at all to hide,
or do questionable things, but you know how it is. I CAN do it, it is
my equipment, so why not do it? If you accidentally do anything and
break any of the thousands of Federal laws, why make it easy on them?
Also handy to use for business reasons, the Fed is none the wiser about
your personal or professional business dealings (industrial
espionage/sabotage anyone? "No, it's OK, we are from the Government, we
would not use this info to harm your business, we just want to make
everybody safe! Really!")
